LEADERSHIP & CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Promotores de Salud Community Health Workers

At Envision Community Services (ECS), we are committed to empower underserved communities through outreach, working to ensure south side communities serve as a safe living and working environment for individuals to thrive.

Envision Community Services (ECS) is working in partnership with the City of Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), Malcolm X College, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and Opportunities for All (OFA) via Promotores de Salud or Community Health Workers program (CHWs)

Promotores de Salud, Community Health Workers (CHWs) in Envision Community Services will be working closely with the Latino communities in which they have direct familiarity and lived experience. CHWs (Promotores de Salud) will fulfill the roles of peer advocates, health educators, and navigators, and often will serve as a crucial link between clients and other health services. Roles of the community health worker also include providing social-emotional support to community members, coordination of healthcare services, and executing various public health initiatives, while working towards equity, diversity, and inclusion within the healthcare system.

Promotores de Salud, Community Health Workers (CHWs) serve as an indispensable resource in assisting community members who face major socioeconomic barriers navigate basic health and human rights services. CHWs work to improve the quality of life to their communities, offering different types of services to promote healthier choices/an overall healthier lifestyle.

Some areas that CHWs work with are cancer, HIV/AIDS, behavioral health, nutrition, women's health, and heart disease. At ECS, CHWs will undertake COVID-19 community outreach initiatives, as well as lead and manage prevention efforts. As CHWs, ECS staff will also take on marketing, web design/social media content creation, establish community partnerships, and fulfill a multitude of public health roles. Overall, the outcome of this initiative is to enable CHWs to affect positive change in their communities through COVID-19 outreach and education. These efforts will influence community members to make choices that benefit their overall health and wellbeing, as well as benefit the greater community at large.

As CHWS/Promotores de salud, ECS will continue to fight for a healthy Chicago; Time and again, ECS has shown a willingness to make themselves available to assist in COVID-19 prevention efforts wherever the help may be needed, all based upon the ever-changing needs of the community. ECS' successes in all previous COVID-19 prevention efforts (contact tracing, staffing vaccination pods/vaccine hotline, and community outreach) will guarantee success upon transitioning into the roles of Promotores de Salud.

Stay safe and healthy.

Contact Tracing

At Envision Community Services (ECS), we are committed to empowering underserved communities through outreach, working to ensure south side communities serve as a safe living and working environment for individuals to thrive.

We are an organization working with the City of Chicago Department of Public Health via their COVID-19 contact tracing program. ECS has hired a group of invested community members who are trained contact tracers; their duty is to call and inform those who have possibly been exposed to COVID-19, as well as ensuring that individuals have access to resources- be it a safe place to quarantine, access to food, testing, and medical care. All data collected is completely confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of the Department of Public Health.

We ask that the public be aware of this development, stay vigilant, and to PLEASE ANSWER YOUR PHONE if the caller ID displays “ChiContactCorps.” The purpose of the call is to deliver important health information with the intent of keeping you and those around you safe.

If we work together, we can put a stop to the spread of COVID-19 and “flatten the curve” within the greater Chicago community, as well as on a nationwide scale.

We will be posting updates on the current pandemic/ the contact tracing program, as well as helpful information and resources.

Stay safe and healthy.
